Hand and Wrist Surgery
Hand Surgery is the surgical and non-surgical treatment of conditions that take place in the hand or upper extremity. This is a complex specialty that requires the understanding of the anatomy and surgical technique of nerves, vasculature, tendons and ligaments. Hand surgery can be practiced by surgeons following a fellowship after an orthopaedic surgery residency.
Both of our hand specialists, Dr. Aimee Perreira and Dr. Edward Chan, completed their fellowship training at the Hand Center of San Antonio in Texas and are hand, upper extremity, and microvascular surgery experts. They perform muscular flap coverage for challenging traumatic wounds as well as replant surgery for finger amputations.
In addition, we treat carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger fingers, Dupuytren's disease, arthritis, fractures, and a broad range of other conditions that affect the hand. Schedule an appointment with Dr. Aimee Perreira or Dr. Edward Chan today if you are concerned about a recent injury, persistent pain and numbness in your hands, or a new lump that you haven't seen before.
Common Injuries
• Carpal and cubital tunnel syndrome
• Trigger finger
• Wrist tendonitis
• Ganglions/cysts/lumps
• Dupuytren’s disease
• CMC arthritis
• Hand and wrist fractures
• Jammed fingers
Treatment Options
Treatment options include splinting, therapy, anti-inflammatories (over the counter, topical, or oral medications), injections (cortisone injections, Xiaflex injections for Dupuytren’s disease), and surgery. We typically start with the least invasive approach but also consider what will be most effective in alleviating symptoms. We work closely with the best hand therapists in the community, which is critical in obtaining a good outcome with many types of hand surgery.
